The Craft Behind Capewell's Custom Spurs & Knives

There's something deeply satisfying about holding a piece of steel that started as raw metal and ended up as a finely crafted spur or knife. At Capewells, that transformation happens by hand — and it's been that way from the very beginning.

Where It All Begins

Every Capewell spur and knife starts with quality steel and a clear vision. Before the forge is even lit, there's a conversation — about the rider's style, the work the knife needs to do, the weight and balance that feels right in the hand. Custom work means no two pieces are exactly alike, and that's exactly the point.

The Blacksmithing Process

Blacksmithing is one of the oldest trades in the world, and the fundamentals haven't changed much. Steel is heated until it's workable, then shaped with hammer and anvil into the form it needs to take. It takes patience, precision, and a feel for the metal that only comes with experience.

For spurs, the shank angle, rowel size, and band fit all need to work together — both for function in the saddle and for the look that western riders take pride in. For knives, the grind, the edge geometry, and the handle material all come together to create something that's as much a pleasure to use as it is to look at.

Australian Made, Built to Last

Every piece that leaves the Capewell workshop is made right here in Australia. That means full control over quality at every step — from the steel we choose to the finish we put on. We don't cut corners, because the people who use our gear don't cut corners either.

Whether you're a working stockman, a rodeo competitor, or a collector who appreciates genuine craftsmanship, a Capewell piece is built to go the distance.
